He played trumpet and trombone and he led an incredibly influential band which included Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. As Dizzy remembered\, “No other band like this one existed in the world.” \nBut it is his voice we remember today. And if we have to pick one song it would be “I Apologize.” \nRich Martin\, our vibes guy\, saw Mr. B once–appearing with Sarah Vaughan. He doesn’t remember where or when. But he certainly remembers that amazing musical presence. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join the Eddie Piccard Quartet in the Longbranch Lounge for an evening of jazz music. \nThere are two weeks left in the fish fry season–which means that for two more weeks we will open our Friday evenings with the salad bar in the middle of the dance floor. It’s a little daunting\, but we have had some intrepid dancers find space at the end of the salads. \nWe have been trying to think of appropriate song titles–things we might play to fit the occasion. So far there are two favorites: “Lettuce Entertain You” and “The Beet Goes On.” Please send us whatever titles you think of that might work. Don’t worry about the song. We just need the titles. \nThis Friday (3/18) in our Second Set we plan to take the Quartet south–into sunnier climes. We’ll play “Is It True What They Say About Dixie\,” some of the New Orleans melodies\, anything that comes to mind and represents the land of magnolias. If you have requests\, let us know. \nSometime in the future we are thinking about taking the blues to Hollywood. Wouldn’t you like to hear John Wayne sing the blues? Or Jimmy Stewart? We might try some other variations here\, too.
