Louis-Armstrong

“The Second Set” has been a lot of fun because it gives us the chance to play some great music and it lets us all remember some of the people who made jazz what it is. So far we have done Basie-Sinatra, Ellington-Darin, and Goodman-Dennis.

This Friday (1/16) we are going to reach back. We will start with some songs done by perhaps the most famous star in jazz history, the man who helped get it all started: Louis Armstrong. We will play several of the songs he recorded. And, yes, we will certainly include “Hello Dolly.”

And we will mix in some songs recorded by the pianist/singer/composer and generally irresistible dynamic force, Fats Waller. Among those songs: “Honeysuckle Rose” and “This Joint is Jumpin’.”

We will be having a good time. Hope you can join us at the Longbranch.
